US Air Force Museum - The Cold War And Beyond...

This part represents the aircraft that were used in the Cold War and beyond. There were tremendous advances in aviation during the years of the Cold War. Man went up into space. Man also went past Mach 3. Fortunately, the nuclear weapons were never used.

This is the U-2 spy plane. It could fly at incredible altitudes. It was used until one was shot down over the Soviet Union.

This is the B-47 Stratojet. It was one of our earliest jet bombers and saw lots of use until the B-52 was created.

This is the C-141 Starlifter, the workhorse cargo plane from Vietnam until just past Desert Storm. This particular one was used to bring the first group of POWs home from Vietnam.

This is the F-22 Lightning, part of the next generation of fighters. It can go supersonic without afterburners and probably wipe out anything currently in the sky.

This is the B-2 Stealth Bomber.

This is the B-1 Bomber.

This is the F-117A Stealth Fighter, the first stealth aircraft used in an attack role. Only one was shot down.

This is the MiG-29, representing the latest in Russian aircraft. In the hands of a capable pilot, it can probably equal our aircraft.

This is the F-15 Eagle, born out of the lessons of Vietnam.

This is the F-102 Starfighter, the plane that former President Bush fley (well not this particular plane but this family).

This is the SR-71 Reconnaissance plane. It was an awesome aircraft that could go past Mach 3.5 (the Air Force never officially released it's top speed), speculation is that it could go up to Mach 4. Because of it's shape, it was one of the first stealth aircraft.
