This is a memorial to Chase Osborn, the only Michigan governor to come from the Upper Penninsula. He was born in Indiana but eventually moved up to Sault Ste. Marie. This is where he started his political career. He was governor from 1911 to 1913. He was the one that started to lobby for the Mackinac Bridge.
