The William L. Clements Library

The Clements library was opened in 1923 with the gift of Clements' Americana collection, a collection of 20,000 rare books, hundreds of maps, and the papers of the British Lord who negotiated the peace for the Revolutionary War.

The architect was Albert Kahn (who you've seen on this blog several times before) and it was based on a casino in Italy.

Looking at the front of the library.

Getting a detail of one of the arches.

One of the friezes.

The state seal of Michigan.

A detail of one of the arches.
