Another one of the buildings that give some character to Detroit's skyline is the Guardian Building. Construction on it started in 1928 and was completed in 1929. It was originally called the Union Trust Building and is an example of Art Deco and art moderne.
The building stands at 36 stories tall and has assymetric towers. The exterior blends brickwork with tile, limestone and terra cotta.
The details on this building are pretty impressive.
The inside of the building is even more impressive.
There is a nice vaulted ceiling with impressive tilework.
So are some of the mosaics.
At one time this building was called the Cathedral of Finance and as you look, you can see why because it resembles a Cathedral.
This is the other side of the other picture I took.
A nice tile map of Michigan.
Another shot of the entrance.
A look up at the building.
As I was waling around the building, I noticed these sculptures.
A closeup shot of one of the sculptures.
Another shot looking up.
In 2007, the County decided to move to this building which is a good thing, I think.
Such a beautiful building. I'm glad that Detroit has managed to save at least some of its impressive architecture. I love the geometries of all the tile designs, and the Age of Exploration-style map of Michigan is cool too.
