The Bridge was built in 1929 and until 1931 was the longest central span in the world at 1,850 feet. It was surpassed by the George Washington Bridge. It is an Art Deco and Streamline Moderne design.
The main part is suspended and the towers are cantilever truss structures. The bridge in Toledo is similar and was designed by the same people.
The Bridge itself is owned by Manuel "Matty" Moroun who holds a monopoly on the commercial truck traffic. Because of this, Canada and some folks in Michigan would like to open a second bridge. Mr. Moroun is fighting this tooth and nail. He is also the guy that owns the famous Train Station in Detroit.

It's not a bad looking bridge.
