This is the second time this ship has
appeared on this blog so I'm not going to go into the history of her.
I kind of like how they have the ship in sand because I think ultimately this will preserve it better than if they keep it in water. Admittedly, she belongs in water but that makes it difficult to preserve her. Sadly, I think many of the museum ships will have to go this route.
I kind of like how she sets off against the sky in this shot.
Some detail of her pilothouse.
One of the boats you could use to get around.
A shot of the stern.
Her light.
An attempt an overall shot.
I served on board as a Fireman/Engineman from 1957-59
ReplyDeleteIt was on May 7th, 1958 the
lightship lost her only crew-member
when SN (BM) Robert J. Gullickson lost his life when he drowned after
the ship's lifeboat was swamped when returning from the Port Huron Lifeboat Station. I was able to save Vincent J. Disch, one of the ships' cooks, after he had survived more than 2 hours in the
very cold Lake Huron waters.
