And I would like to send out a special thanks to the Bay City Times for publishing their article about this group of eagles. I think more and more people were getting aware of this collection of eagles but it didn't seem crazy. Now even more people know and they have to post no parking signs all along the road leading into the spot near the eagles.
They also have to post signs like this. I don't have a problem with people going to see the eagles but when they start traipsing through the woods to get closer and tear up the area around the road that is a bit much. We are extremely fortunate that the people who own the land don't have much of a problem with people watching the eagles but it only takes a few more bad apples before they decide they've had enough.
Eagles are pretty solitary birds as well. If there is too steady of a stream of people, the nesting pair may decide to pack up and move to another spot. I would hate to see that happen as well as I've gotten used to going to this spot and seeing eagles most of the time.
So basically, don't be a jerk and be respectful to both the birds and the people that own the property.
This would be one instance that it doesn't pay to advertise.
ReplyDeleteIt is fantastic that they have a sign up. I know the location of a Cooper's Hawk nest near my home, and I don't want to tell anyone about it because I'm afraid they'll be harassed. They're not Bald Eagles, but still beautiful birds.
