I love it when one of these birds fly by while I am boatwatching.
They are kind of ugly birds when they are up close but I love to watch them as they fly across the river.
Most of the time, they skim rapidly across the river and they look faster than they are probably going.
Sometimes if I catch them right, it looks like they are gliding but that is more a function of the shutter speed on the camera as it seems like they only glide when they are coming in for a landing.
