And a Stop by Lee

 After watching ships for a while, you end up liking some of them more than others.

The Lee A. Tregurtha is in that category of ship.  She's not my favorite, but she's up there.

She is one of two ships that are currently on the Great Lakes that have a war record.

During World War II, she served as the USS Chiwawa which was a tanker.  If you look at her bow, you can see that she has a salt water bow.

After the war, she was a tanker that traveled up and down in the East Coast.

In the 1950's, there was a great demand for ships on the Great Lakes and the shipping companies of the Great Lakes couldn't keep up with that demand.

Someone bought what would become the Lee A. Tregurtha and converted her into a laker.

When you think about it, it's pretty amazing what they can do with ships.

Anyway, she has served on the Great Lakes for quite a while now.

And she is a nice looking ship.

If you look closely at her pilot house, you can see her battle ribbons.

In this shot, she was heading down to the Rouge River from Marquette.  She would have been delivering iron ore.
