A New Ship Makes an Appearance

It's amazing the different kind of vessels there are.  There are the cargo ships of course.  There are the Coast Guard cutters and ice breaker.  There are the Coast Guard response boats.  Police boats.  Fire boats.  Mail boats.  Pilot boats.

This is a research vessel.
It is operated by the U.S. Geological Survey and used for fishery research.
She was commissioned in 2000 and was built by the Patti Shipyard in Pensacola, Florida.
She is operated by three crew and carries six researchers.
She can go 11 knots and can stay out for 10 days.
The kiyi is a type of whitefish.  It used to inhabit all of the Great Lakes but most stays in Superior now.  It is a deep water fish.
It was nice to see this boat and she's a cool looking boat.
