Cleveland Air Show 2023

I went to the Cleveland Air Show with my dad yesterday.  We went to our normal spot on top of one of the parking garages.  It is a pretty decent view of the airshow but I think I might have found a better spot for next year.

We arrived a little late, so we missed the first couple of displays.  We came into the Cleveland Clinic helicopter flying by.  I think the show was delayed a little bit because a liver was being transported for transplant.  As soon as that cleared, things were back up.  This is an S-76.  It used to be made by Sikorsky but I think this one was made under license.
We arrived in time to catch the full F-22 display.
This is the one that I was hoping to see because it is such a neat plane to watch.
There was a little moisture in the air yesterday but not enough it seems.
With the trails behind, it definitely conveys motion.
And then we got a surprise as the pilot started to demonstrate the flare system.
Flares are used to fool infrared missiles.  They are hotter than the exhaust of the fighter and sometimes the missile will follow them instead of the plane.
Sometimes you need more than one.
I really like this shot.
She makes a pass.
Another.
Another with some trails.
The afterburners going.  The F-22 is one of a few aircraft that can go supersonic without afterburners.  The plane will use afterburners for other things though.
And this was cool.  A full demonstration of the flares.
Next up was the F/A-18 Horner from the Navy.
The plane going into a turn.
A pass.
Going into a dive.
Another pass.
A fly by.
Probably my best picture was as the plane was landing.
The Golden Knights Dash-8 taking off.
This was a precision aerobatic group.
They were pretty good.
The Dash-8 flying over.
The planes after a maneuver.  I think they were using AT-6 Texans.
That used to be the training plane during World War II and just after.
One of the Golden Knights coming down.
a group of them.
I kind of like this one.
The Dash-8 coming in for a landing.
Next up was an AV-8 Harrier.
This is the plane than take off and land vertically.
It was hovering during this picture.
The Cleveland Police looking at the crowd and trying to get a count.
It is a pretty neat looking helicopter.
The main attraction was the Thunderbirds this year.  I think they came back this year because their show was cut short last year.
It was pretty cool to see them, especially since I didn't see them at all this summer.
The diamond formation.
The diamond passes.
A mirror formation.
I'm not sure what this formation is.
One of the planes passing by.
They all roll at the same time.
The diamond passing by again.
Another one of the planes.
Breaking formation.
Passing over.
Climbing.
The five planes in a formation.
The solo pulling off.
the diamond formation.
Coming down.
Breaking up as it passes over.
Another formation passing.
One last picture.
