Next Up...The Calumet

 The next ship was following fairly closely the last ship, as evidenced by some of the pictures in the last post.

The Calumet is one of the river class ships that ply the Great Lakes.

She was designed to go into the various rivers that are on the Great Lakes.  She is a sister to the Robert S. Pierson and Manitiwoc.

I think they are cool looking ships because they have a warship quality about them.

The Calumet was coming down from Calcite.

And that means that she was carrying limestone.

She was heading to Fairport.

From Calcite, that is roughly a 2 day trip which is pretty sure compared to the voyage of the last ship.

You don't realize how big the Great Lakes are until you see the length of time it takes a ship to travel them.

There are people in many parts of the country that have no idea how big the Great Lakes are.

When you tell them that you can't see across, they don't believe you.

It has been said that if they were saltwater instead of fresh water, they'd be called seas.

Oh well.
