As we were leaving Manistee, I noticed this ship docked. She is the S.S. City of Milwaukee which was built in 1931 for the Grand Trunk Car Ferry Company in 1931 to replace the original ship which sank in 1929.
She sailed for Grand Trunk until 1978 when she was charted to the Ann Arbor Railroad (which has been mentioned in this blog before). She sailed for that Railroad until she was retired in 1982. She is currently being preserved as a National Historic Landmark and is the last traditional rail ferry afloat.
Quietly sitting in front is USCG Cutter Acacia. Nice shot.
