The American Century

So as I said in the last post, there was a ship that distracted me while I was at Marysville.

 As I was pulling into the parking lot at Marysville, I looked to the right and I saw the American Century coming up hard.  I got out of the car to take pictures of her.  I thought I would have enough time to get pictures of her and then swing up to Port Huron for pictures of the Barker.  As it turned out, I barely caught the Barker, but I got nice pictures of the Century.

 As shot of her bow.  This bow would probably tower over most towns.

 She just finished delivering coal to the St. Clair Power Plant and I think she was heading back to the coal dock in Duluth or Superior to pick up more coal.  I think this is a mostly repeat run for her.

 I love it when the crew members interact with the folks on the shore.  There are several ships with hands like this.  I think they are all a slightly different color but they all stand out.

Since I was already up in Port Huron, I decided to stick around for her.  It wasn't too long for her to appear.

 "I for one welcome our avian overlords".

 This is by far my favorite shot in Port Huron.  I'm glad that the river is set up so that I can do this.

 I was hoping to get another wave.

 But instead, I got some closeups of the pilothouse.

 And her stack.

 And she continues on her merry way.

 Her flag flying proudly in the breeze.

And one more shot as she continues her way up into Lake Huron.   As I am typing this post, she would have passed through the Soo Locks and will be at her dock sometime tomorrow.
