A DASH 7 Passes Over

The next post was the result of a surprise.

The plane is a de Havilland Canada Dash 7 owned by Transport Canada.
This plane is used in a maritime surveillance mode all over the place.  I think she is spending time over the Great Lakes.  She is based in Ottawa.   One of the things she is looking for is pollution.  I think they can spot other things.
Development on the Dash 7 started in 1972.  de Havilland was famous for it's aircraft with STOL (short take off and landing) capability.   The most popular being the Beaver and Twin Otter.  de Havilland wanted to enter the regional airline market.  The first flight occurred in 1975 and the first production unit was in 1978.
In 1978, design of the much more popular twin engined Dash 8 began.  When production of the Dash 7 ended, there were only 113 planes produced.
