The next ship has appeared on this blog before, but I'm not sure I've done her history.
The Federal Asahi as she passes the Renaissance Center. It was starting to rain a little bit and that made for a nice haze for these pictures.
The Federal Asahi was built by the Oshima Shipbuilding Company in Saikai, Japan in 2000. She looks pretty good for being over 20 years old and a saltie.
She is owned by Federal Navigation out of Montreal, Canada. As is the case with many salties, she is registered in a different port of convenience. In this case, the Marshall Islands.
She is 652 feet long and that seems to be roughly the same as the other FedNav vessels.
She is roughly 77 feet wide, which means she fits in the Welland Canal.
She can carry roughly 36,000 tons of cargo.
In this instance, she is heading down from Thunder Bay. I think that means she is carrying a load of grain.
She doesn't have her destination listed on AIS, but I think she is heading overseas.
It is also possible she is heading to one of the Quebec ports.
She approaches the Ambassador Bridge.
I love the way the red hull stands out against the gray day.

I was hoping to get a shot of the Marshall Islands flag. It wasn't working out for me though.
