After catching the boats in the morning, I decided to head up to Fish Point.
I was hoping to see some egrets or something else but there wasn't much stirring.
the water lilies looked pretty cool though.
I tried to get a few different ones.
I tried to find a spot where I could find a reflection, but no luck.
I did find an angle where I could see the inside of the lily.
There is log near the back of the park where there is usually a bunch of turtles sunning. This time there was only one and he stayed long enough for pictures.
Evidently, this is a tree swallow.
Another shot of the turtle.

Scenes of the Westcott
It is always nice to see the Westcott in action. That is another advantage of shooting from Riverside Park.
The Westcott about to make a delivery to the Cuyahoga.
the Westcott leaving the Cuyahoga after making the delivery. she was heading to a spot in the park because they needed to pick up something to deliver to another ship.

We Bring You Our Feature Attraction
And now, our main attraction.
I saw that the Cuyahoga was on her way to Cleveland. I was almost thinking about heading down there to catch her but it wouldn't be until around 7 or 8 that she would be arriving and I didn't want to be out late. I figured that catching her in Detroit would be pretty good. As you can see, it was a pretty nice day and cool enough that I wasn't getting a ton of heat haze.
I thought I had a better view of the skyline with the ship but this one will have to do. I like these shots better when the ship is bigger.
She gets closer. This is one of the reasons why I like shooting from Riverside. You get a good backdrop of Belle Isle.
She makes the turn for passing the Ambassador Bridge. There is a slight turn here and it gives a good angle of the ship.
I think I like the three quarters view the best. It gives a good idea of the size of these ships. It gives a good idea of the configuration as well.
Like I said, she was heading to Cleveland which is about 7 to 8 hours away from Detroit. It probably would have been doable to catch her there but I didn't really want to be there that late.
I think she was carrying a load of stone because I think she was coming down from Bruce Mines.
A shot of Caesar's Casino in Windsor in the back.
She comes close to the bridge.
she is approached by the Westcott (more on that in the next post).
And the start of a shot with the Ambassador Bridge in the background. The cloud formations were pretty nice too.
The Westcott starts to do its delivery.
One more shot as the Cuyahoga passes the Ambassador Bridge.
After a sound of the horn by both boats, the Wescott starts to peel off.
A shot of the Cuyahoga's bow.
The Cuyahoga passes the Mississagi and both fleet mates salute each other.
And the Cuyahoga continues on her way to Cleveland.
A sort of shot of her stern.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police Boat
This was between pictures of the Cuyahoga but I noticed this boat making its way on the other side of the Detroit River. I was pretty sure it was Canadian but I didn't find out what exactly until I got home and opened my pictures.
It turns out that it was a boat that belongs to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It was pretty cool to see.
Of course it makes me wonder how they get those horses on board but oh well.
If you look towards the rear of the cabin, you can even see a horse symbol.
I will have to admit, it's kind of neat the different things you see along the Detroit River. I guess it helps that it shares a border with another country.

The Detroit Police Boat Makes an Appearance
As I was waiting for the Cuyahoga, I noticed the Detroit Police Boat coming down the river. I like the looks of it, so of course, I took pictures.
I think this is one of a couple of police boats.
You can see the Cuyahoga behind her. I kind of like this shot.
I think it was recently repainted. It looks kind of nice. I also think Detroit got their hands on one of the Defender boats.
And you can see the Canadian flag in the background.
Another angle of it.
she comes close to my spot.
Unfortunately, I couldn't quite get a beam shot as I had my big lens on the camera. My big lens only goes down to 150mm and that's not quite small enough to get a close up shot. Anyways....

The Mississagi Briefly in Windsor
While I was waiting for the Cuyahoga, I saw that the Mississagi was making her way up the River. I wasn't sure if I would catch her before I got to the park, but I did.
While I thought she was docking on the Windsor side, it turns that she really wasn't. Because of the nuances in the Jones Act, she had to touch Canadian soil before heading to the spot where she was unloading.
Even though I saw her not too long ago, it is always nice to see a classic laker.
One more shot before moving to the main prize.

A View of the Detroit Skyline
So last Thursday, I went down to Riverside Park to catch a ship (shocking I know). I really enjoy the view of the Detroit skyline from there.
While Detroit doesn't have one of the biggest skylines out there, I think it is one of the more unique skylines. I think the Guardian Tower is one of the cooler buildings out there. What used to be known as the Comerica Tower is pretty cool too. Anyway, a little diversion before the ship pictures.
