Down in Detroit for the Auto Show

I went down to Detroit in order to catch the Auto Show yesterday.  I had a pretty nice day.
I ended up parking at Greektown Casino.  Mainly because it was free and I could take the People Mover over to Cobo Hall.  There is a pretty nice view of the Detroit Skyline from the parking structure there.
I think this is supposed to be a Lions player.  The current #21 is Ameer Abdullah but I think this was painted when Reggie Bush was wearing that number.
 Just missed the People Mover.
But the station is heated, so it was too bad.
It didn't take too long for our train to appear.
The car was fairly full.
Another shot of the skyline from the train.
There is a Joe Louis statue in Cobo Arena.
Kind of a Detroit still life.

Riding on the People Mover

So I ended up going to the Auto Show yesterday.  Generally that means parking at Greektown and taking the People Mover over to Cobo.  Mainly because I can park at the casino for free.  I had some Freeplay at the Casino and that translated to getting to ride the People Mover for free (didn't win much though).
I kind of liked this mural on one of the buildings in Greektown.  I think it's supposed to be Reggie Bush but I'm not 100% sure.  He's holding a Red Bull though.
Just a shot looking down Greektown.
The Greektown People Mover station.  It was actually kind of nice because they had some heat lamps and it was pretty cold yesterday.
In other words...don't wait on the tracks.
They usually have the trains decorated special for the Auto Show.  This time was no exception.
 Looking towards the Comerica Tower.
Looking down the other side of the Guardian Building.
A shot of Cobo Hall.  They definitely had this decorated for the Auto Show.
This where the Red Wings play until they get their new home.
Looking out the front entrance of Cobo Hall.  The building in the center is the Penobscot Building.  I really like Detroit's skyline.
After the Auto Show, I saw that there were a pair of ships in the Belle Isle Anchorage, so I had to get pictures of them.  This is a shot of the Renaissance Center from Milliken State Park.

The Detroit People Mover

As I said in my teaser post, I went down to the Auto Show today.  It has been at least 10 years since I've been there.  I'm thinking that I probably should have taken a day off and went during the week but I guess this will do.

I decided to park at Greektown and take the People Mover over.  It has been even longer since I've ridden the People Mover but it is something I've wanted to do.
Just a shot of the Greektown Station.
One of the People Mover Trains.  The People Mover has been in the works since 1975 but never opened until 1987.  When it did open, it was scaled back considerably.  It was going to cover more area of Detroit but instead covers an area that can almost be walked.  Although on a day like today, it was nice to not have to walk it.
A shot from inside the car.  I don't think the People Mover has ever broken even.  Maybe if it connects up with a train that goes elsewhere, that might change.
Many of the stations have artwork in them.
This is one of the mosaics from the Cobo Station.  I think these are the cooler looking ones.
Some of the rest of the cars.
I don't remember what station this was.  I think it was the one right after the Cobo Hall Station.  I kind of liked the artwork.  I guess the People Mover is not too bad.  It's a shame it doesn't cover a wider area though.
