The Taffy 3 Memorial

Taffy 3 was a group of Escort Carriers, Destroyers and Destroyer Escorts that through some interesting circumstances ended up taking on a Japanese Task Group of Battleships and Cruisers. They were able to put up such a fierce fight that the Japanese Admiral thought he was facing the main group of the US Navy and turned around. This came at a high cost though.

One angle of the monument.

Details of the battle.

Another angle.

A sculpture of Admiral Sprague was the commander of the task force.
