The Huron Lightship from the Air

I had a little time to kill before the next ship.  I didn't want to put a half charged battery in the drone for the next ship just in case.  I also didn't want to put a half charged battery on the charger, so I decided to take some pictures of the lightship.

It is a pretty neat looking ship.
One of these days, I may need to take the tour of her.
But for now, I'll be content with pictures of her.
the beam shot of her.  I can only imagine what this looked like when she was active.

The Huron Lightship from the Air

As I was taking a picture of another ship, I passed the Huron Lightship on the way back to landing my drone.  I decided to take a couple pictures of it.

I don't like the fact that they have it out of the water but it will last longer this way than if they kept it in the water.
One of these days, I'm going to tour her.

The Huron and Hollyhock

Just decided to take pictures of both of these while waiting.
The Huron is a lightship that used to operate by Port Huron.  I'm not sure what it was replaced by but now it is a museum.
The Hollyhock is a Coast Guard buoy tender/icebreaker.  There wasn't alot of ice this year, so it wasn't particularly busy.  I think it was doing buoy tending not too long ago.

The Huron Lightship

Occasionally, the Huron will sneak into my pictures.
I liked the fact that her light was shining.  I tried a little underexposed to get her light.

A Handful of Things on the River

Just some pictures of things along the river.
The Hollyhock calls Port Huron her home.  Pretty soon she will be busy breaking ice.
The Huron Lightship.  One of these days, I'll have to take a tour of her.
 A tugboat.
 The fishing tug from yesterday.
As I was taking pictures of one of the ships, this passed by.

Boats and Other Assorted Miscellany

It was a pretty slow day on the river as far as commerical vessels was concerned but it was pretty busy day for other vessels.
A picture of the Huron Lightship from where the boatnreds first gathered.
The variety of pleasure craft is amazing.  It's also amazing how fast a boat of this size can move.
The Sheriff's boat going out to look for miscreants.
 Another pleasure craft.
The Huron Lady passing by.  One of the things we were going to do yesterday was to take a cruise on her.  It was $5 day and apparently long sold out before we got our tickets.  I guess I'll have to make it a point to take this cruise some day.
 A shot of her pilothouse.
I don't remember what ship this anchor came from, but I think it is from a sunken ship near Port Huron.
The Canadian flag flying over the International Flag Plaza.  I kind of like the Canadian Flag.
 The Blue Water statue.
This sculpture was built last year in commeration of the Storm of 1913.  It was a storm that occurred in November of that year and it caught many ships unprepared and subsequently sank many of those ships.  There were 19 ships sank during that storm, another 19 that were stranded and 250 lives lost.
The other side of that sculpture.
Looking down at the Blue Water Bridge.
Looking at the Blue Water Bridge from another angle.
A statue of Thomas Edison as a boy.  He used to work in a railroad depot in Port Huron.  It was there that he started to mess around with electricity.
 A shot of his face.
A shot of a passenger car in front of that Depot.  The depot is now a museum but I have yet to go in it.
Taking the long view of the Bridge.
A US Coast Guard boat going out on patrol.
A sailboat coming into the river.  This was the only one that I saw under sail.  I like seeing sailboats under sail.
A shot of both the American Flag and Canadian Flag.
Looking up at one of the pillars of the Bridge.
 From a different angle.
Then we went to St. Clair for a bit to catch the ship in the next post.  They have a little flower garden near that spot.  This is some kind of iris, I think.
 Another angle of that flower.
 Another type of iris.
 Another type of pleasure boat.
The Canadian Coast Guard doing Coast Guard things.
I was amazed at how fast this pontoon boat was moving.
A wall of water splashing around a boat after it crashed back to the water.
 A speed boat speeds by.
Towboats.us will go out and fill your boat...for a fee.

Port Huron After Dark

We then decided to head up to Port Huron for dinner.  My friend wanted some night shots.  I was ambivalent because I wasn't planning on being out this long, so I didn't bring my tripod.
I did however find some spots to prop my camera, so I managed to get a few nightshots.  A shot of the Blue Water Bridge.
A slightly longer exposure of the above shot.
Then I spied a picnic table so that I could try to get the Huron in the shot.
Then I found a spot where I could get a picture of the Huron itself.
From another angle.  Sadly, I had to back the camera, so I got a little of the thing I was using to prop the camera.
One more angle of the Huron.
