Sadly, the fall colors weren't as intense as I thought they would be, so I didn't get too many pictures. In fact, the only pictures I really got were from Straits Park.
Something tells me this is going to be a quick fall. This week, they will be like this and the next time I get up there, they will be gone.
Still pretty though.
And I guess this is why they call it fall.
A different color.
A little more orange and yellow.

The Mackinac Bridge from Straits State Park
The fall colors are coming back to Michigan with a vengeance so I thought it would be a good day to go up north yesterday. I was thinking about going to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park but I saw that my favorite ship was locking down at the Soo Locks which meant I would have plenty of time to catch her at DeTour. So it was off to DeTour instead.
As we were crossing the bridge, I saw that there was a ship that was just passing under the Bridge and I kind of wanted to catch a picture of her under the Bridge, so I figured we would try a different park. This time, we went to the Straits State Park which is on the eastern St. Ignace of the Bridge. It is almost directly opposite of the park where I normally take my pictures of the Bridge.
I'm pretty sure that I have over 1000 pictures of the Bridge but I don't have any from this park which is a shame because it presents a nice view. I've always wondered where people got pictures of the Bridge framed with trees like this one.
Now I know. It definately gives it a more rustic look.
I may have to try to come here in the morning sometime so that I can have more lit pictures of the Bridge.
But it is still a pretty nice view.
And now I have another angle to my collection of Bridge pictures.

A Roger Blough Collage
I saw someone else do a collage of a single ship and I've actually been meaning to do this one for a while, so I got around to doing it.
People who come to this blog know what my favorite ship is. She's appeared on this blog several times now and will probably appear on it several more times. I figured a collage would be a good thing.
Hope you enjoy.

Belle Isle in September
I figured that since I was already on Belle Isle, I might as well take the opportunity to do my September pictures, since I wasn't sure that I would make it back in time to still be September.
It's kind of amazing what a difference a couple of months makes. Granted, it's been pretty dry this summer but the prairie grass is drying and the lighthouse is more visible.
The trees are still trying to resist the fall though but I suspect they wont be able to much longer.
Not sure if you can see the spider in there but he's there. Not sure of what kind of spider though.
This tree hasn't resisted, but I think it may be this color all the time.
A closer shot of the lighthouse.
And closer yet. This is another one of my favorite lighthouses.
But who is Bob?
Is he the artist? No. The artist is Prince, but I think Prince is Prince again.
I think there was some kind of regatta going on. Unfortunately, I just had my little lens at the time.
One more shot of the lighthouse. You can see hints of yellow in the tree.
God and Jesus.
I was kind of surprised that the fountain was going, but it was pretty neat.
And windy.
A water spitting cat.
And again.
One more shot of the fountain. Still pretty windy.
A shot of an obscured downtown.
The Nancy Brown Peace Carillon again.
And a bridge by it.
The Conservatory. Not too much different here.
Another shot of the Carillon.
And one more shot of the Conservatory.
It's hard to believe that it is September already. It seems like just yesterday I was taking pictures of snow. Pretty soon I will be doing that again.

Random Randomness at Belle Isle
And so that concludes the ship pictures. Now just some of the other sights of the day.
A pleasure vessel just cruising along the river.
A Border Patrol Helicopter snooping around. I hope he wasn't looking for the large group of people with cameras taking pictures of ships.
I think this may be a 737 but I'm not sure.
An older pleasure craft.
A higher flying pleasure craft.
And a Dolphin. One of these days, I'm going to have to try a slower shutter speed on one of these to get the whir of the rotors.

Return of the Kaye Barker
The last time I saw the Kaye Barker was at the Soo Locks. She was out on her maiden voyage after getting new engines. She was also sporting a new paint job and looked pretty impressive.
Here she is rounding out past the Coast Guard station on Belle Isle. I really should use this spot more often as it gives a nice clean background for the ships.
She even said hello to the folks assmbled on the beach which was pretty cool.
So I guess she's not stuck up like the Algoway.
She's certainly prettier than the Algoway though.
And she heads off to Lake St. Clair and beyond.
