Looking down on of the Detroit Streets from the tunnel connecting the Millender Center to the City-County Building.
A shot of the Mariner's Church. This is the church that is mentioned in the Gordon Lightfoot song. Every year, they have a memorial service for the men of hte Edmund Fitzgerald.
Looking up at the One Woodward Building.
Another shot of the Spirit of Detroit Statue. This time, I wanted to include the city and county seals.
Looking up at the Guardian Building.
This used to be the Grand Trunk Ticket off. Now it is a pretty decent bar/restaurant.
The Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial.
More shots of the of the old County Building. I really love the looks of this building. I hope they find a use for it before it falls into disrepair.
A closeup of the tower. You can see the statues at the base of the tower. There are two of them. Each of them depict victory and progress. The four sculptures on the tower depict law, commerce, agriculture and mechanics.
Another closeup of the tower.
If I remember correctly, the pedimont depicts Anthony Wayne and the native Americans.
A close up of one of the statues.
Looking up at the tower.
I kind of liked the contrast of the old and the new in this picture.
A couple other buildings.
A couple of shops.
The sign for Fishbones.
The Rectory for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greektown.
This church is the third oldest Catholic Church in Detroit and was constructed in 1876. It is often called Old St. Mary's to not confuse it with other churches in the area. In 1982, it was added to the National Registry of Historic places.
Looking down the street of Greektown.
I liked the look of these signs.
Looking up at one of the spires of the Church.
The stained glass window in front of the church. If we had been a little earlier, we could have gone inside.
Looking up at the tower.
A statue of the Virgin Mary.
Another angle of the towers.
Looking up at the window again.
I wanted a shot with both towers in it.
The back spire.
This is the building across the street from Milliken State Park. It used to build steam engines for the ships of the Great Lakes. Henry Ford got his start here. Now it stands abandoned.Looking at the skyline from Milliken.
And this concludes our brief tour of Downtown Detroit. I hope you enjoyed it.
