Just some randomness from the River.
A cormorant swam close enough to get a decent picture.
The Jana Desgagnes docked.
Stalker boat. The Algosoo waits in layup to get out and about again. From what I hear, this will be happening soon.

I'm Gonna Need a Tetanus Shot For This One
The next ship is the Algosoo. This was the other reason I decided to leave the Locks. I wanted to catch here as she was on the River. Personally, as much as I like the Locks, I think the shots are better.
You can see that she has a fair amount of rust, hence the title of the post. Something tells me that Algoma is just biding its time waiting for their new ships from China. This is kind of a shame as they wont look as nice as these ships.
But then again, Algoma isn't really in the business to keep beautiful ships around.
I really like the looks of the skies in this picture.
I was trying for something in the foreground for this shot. What do you think?
Another shot of her pilot house.
A closer shot of her pilothouse.
As I was taking pictures, I saw this guy bobbing around.
A shot of her name. There is something odd about taking a picture of the Algosoo in the Soo.
Another shot of my feathered friend.
Again a shot of the pilothouse as she passes by.
My favorite angle.
And her smokestack.
Some of the crew mulling around.
In case you forgot who owns her.
She works her way up the river.
A shot of her pilothouse from behind.
And she starts to vanish out of site.
Normally this would be introducing the next ship, but you already saw her.

Algosoo Passes Detroit
As we were getting ready to leave, I looked downbound and saw another ship coming upbound.
Turns out that she was the Algosoo. I kind of like this one.
Although I think I'd like it better with the sun behind me.
She passes by my favorite part of Detroit.
And the Ren Cen.
She heads upbound to places I don't know.
And then the MacArthur Bridge.
One more shot before moving on.

The Algosoo and an Iterloper
I was hoping to do something useful today but instead I ended up lounging around in the apartment. Then I saw that the Algosoo would be heading down, so I decided to head down to the River to take pictures of her.
I wasn't sure if I'd be able to catch her from Belle Isle or Milliken, so I checked AIS just before getting to Belle Isle and I saw that I'd have to go to Milliken. That's okay because it gives me a chance for a stalker ship picture.
I wish I had been able to make it to Belle Isle though because I would have had a chance for a headshot. This is the closest I can get at Milliken.
But it's still not a bad spot for taking pictures of the ships.
You can get the 3/4's shot that I normally like.
Shame that I have stuff in the background though.
Oh well.
The Algosoo has been on this blog before, so I'm not going to go into her details. But here's the side shot.
And a shot of her pilothouse.
And stack.
And when I mentioned an interloper in the title, here it is. Fortunately it wasn't a spot where I would get a decent shot. It is kind of a cool looking boat though.
And the Algosoo makes her way past the eye of Sauron.
And slowly works her way down the river.
And I'm sure we'll meet again some day.
And then she starts to make her way past the Ambassador Bridge.

Algorail and Friends
While I was waiting for the Cresswell to make it to the Sarnia dock, I had a chance to take some pictures of other ships in layup.
Compared to the layup view of ships in Toledo, this is actually pretty nice. The Mississagi at rest.
The Algorail docked.
From my original vantage point, I couldn't figure out what ship this was and then I moved a bit and found it was the Algosoo.
The Algorail with the Algosoo's pilothouse.
Another shot of the Missisagi.
One more shot of the Algorail. She is definately another favorite of mine.

The Algosoo Again
So I decided to head down to the Detroit River today. It was a pretty nice day and with the grounding of the Paul R. Tregurtha up near the Soo and the subsequent backup after that, it meant that today would be a pretty hopping time on the River.
First up for my viewing pleasure was the Algosoo. She's appeared on this blog in the past but I was hoping to get some angles I didn't get that time.
At anyrate, I think she is a pretty cool looking ship.
She doesn't look too worse for wear. She also got caught up by the followup events from the Paul R. Tregurtha. When the Paul R. Tregurtha ran aground, a sort of a shoal was created. This was somewhat cleared up but apparently Algosoo caught part of it and may have damaged herself. But she's down here, so I guess she's fine.
A shot of her pilothouse.
An almost straight across shot. I didn't quite get that one last time.
And the straight on shot.
A not quite so closeup of her pilothouse.
The Algobear getting a little dirty.
A closeup of her pilothouse.
And her Algostack.
Another shot of her deckhouse.
A shot of her pilothouse as she starts to peel away.
A full shot as she peels away.
Pulled back a little to get some more of the background.
A shot of her and my next ship.
