The Algosea Docked

When I got down to Belanger this morning, I saw that the Algosea was docked there.

I liked the way the light was hitting it, so I decided to take pictures.  I really like the pink in the water under it.
I took one more picture before I left.  The sun was a little higher.  I kind of like the picture though.

Strangers In the Night

There was a side benefit of coming here.

I got to see the last ship pass the next ship.
It's not often that I get to see ships passing each other.
But it is cool when I do.
One more.

And the Algosea

I had some more ships to catch but for the timing to work out, I had to go to another spot to catch them.

This time I went to Windmill Point.  It's a great spot for catching upbound ships.
It's not so great for downbound ships.  It could be a nice park if people would take care of it.
The Algosea was coming down from Sarnia.
She was heading to the docks across the river from Belanger Park.
Except, I didn't realize it at the time I was taking these pictures.
I was just happy to catch her.
The beam shot.
She continues down the Detroit River.
One more.

The Algosea at Rest

As I was taking pictures of the CSL Assiniboine.  I saw that there were pair of ships docked at the fuel docks.

I'm not sure if the Algosea was loading or something else but I saw that she was heading to Nanticoke today.  I'm pretty sure that was to deliver some fuel.

Catching Up With the Algosea

I ended up taking Friday off and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and then I saw that a couple of ships were passing Belle Isle, so I decided to head over there.

First up was the Algosea.
She was heading up to Sarnia from Nanticoke.
I'm not sure if she returns to Sarnia loaded but it almost looks like it.
As you can see, the ice is almost gone from the Detroit River.
There was a little in spots but the channel was pretty clear.
And that means shipping season will be upon us very soon.
It was a pretty nice day to boot but it was a little on the cold side.
An almost clean shot.
The almost beamshot.
And the beam shot.
She continues her way up the river.
And one more shot.

And the Algosea

It wasn't too long before the next ship made her appearance.

The Algosea was one of the ships I caught last weekend.
She has been fairly busy this winter.  I think she has been doing the Nanticoke trip at least once a week.
She is pushing up a bit of ice in this shot.  It was kind of neat because it made a different sound.
For the most part the channel was clear though.
As a result it seemed like she was booking.
Still had a nice reflection though.
She almost passes by.
I think she might have been loading, so she might have been bringing something back from Nanticoke.
I kind of like this shot.
For the most part the ice is broken up.
The beam shot.
She passes by.
She is heading up to Sarnia.

One more shot.

And the Algosea

So what winter lacks in variety, it makes up for in coolness.  There is something about watching a ship break through the ice.  It's even cooler when you can hear it.  Although, I think the ship may have been too far away from me.

So the ship in question was the Algosea.
And she belongs to Algoma Tankers which in turn belongs to Algoma Central.
Like I said in another, there is usually a handful of ships that run through the winter.
There are usually a couple of freighters that are doing salt runs.
And there are always tankers making fuel runs.
This particular one is headed to Nanticoke.
I think she is carrying fuel oil.
Like I said in the last post, I think she has some capability of breaking ice on her own.
But I don't think it is that much.
It was nice to see a ship on a nice sunny day.
Even if it was cold.
She continues past Belle Isle.
And one more shot.
