The Michipicoten

As I was about to leave, I noticed this ship pulling out from the dock. I waited a little bit until it was all the way out and I was glad because I got these pictures.

The Michipicoten started life as the Elton Hoyt in 1952. She measured 626 feet long and could carry about 20,000 tons of cargo. She was built on saltwater for the Bethlehem Steel Company. She was later converted to a self unloader in Toledo.

In 2003 she was renamed the Michipicoten.

I think one of the cool things about the Lakes is that you can get a picture like this. A lake freighter in the background with a sailboat in the foreground.
