I have a list of lighthouses in the state and it lists this. I've been meaning to check it out for a while but never really got around to it. As I was standing on one side of Belle Isle and watching the Coast Guard boats, I noticed this building and it stuck out in my mind as being on that list. So I took a picture of it.
This building was constructed in 1874 and is of brick construction. It was used to house the oils and various other supplies that were used in lighthouses. It was later transferred to the Coast Guard and used as a headquarters. It is now owned by the City of Detroit and will be used as a museum.
