Catching a Chris Craft

It's amazing some of things you catch.
The Chris Craft is probably the prototypical pleasure boat.  Chris Craft was founded by Chris Smith who built his first wooden boat in 1874.  In 1881, he joined his brother to manufacture boats on a larger scale.  In 1922, Chris formed the Chris Smith and Sons boat company in Algonac, Michigan.  The name was changed to Chris-Craft in 1924 and they sold powerboats to the wealthy.
During World War II, they sold a large number of small craft to the military.  After the war, they went back into the civillian business and sold a wide variety of boats.  The boats had a reputation for quality and reliability.  After the 1960's, they fell to many owners and are currently owned by Winnebago and are built in Sarasota, Florida.
