George Washington's Boyhood Home

Nearby Fredericksburg is the home that George Washington spent his boyhood. It is a place called Ferry's Farm. I didn't go inside the house as I wasn't terribly interested. Judging by the air conditioners, it didn't look like they tried to keep it in a historic state.

It was a pretty nice looking house though. This would have been where the fabled cherry tree would have been chopped down.

This building was not Washington's boyhood home. It's a later building on the site of Ferry Farm. Washington grew up in a very simple farmhouse on this property. Recent archeological discoveries have pinpointed the foundation of the home. If you had gone in, you would have seen displays of artifacts found and learned about what the property looked like during Washington's time there.

I wish I had gone in but we were on a pretty tight schedule. I just will have to come back next year.
