The On Ramp of Dreams

Last week, I posted a picture of the Ambassador Bridge with a line of trucks that stretched from Canada to Detroit.  It was so busy that there was a police officer directing traffic from the off ramp to Fort Street.  Much of this is caused by a pissing match between the City, State and one Mr. Moroun.

I apologize for the quality of this picture as I was mainly using it to set up my opinion.
Mr. Moroun is the gentleman (and I use that term loosely) that owns the Ambassador Bridge.  He also owns a few other buildings in and around Detroit.  The most famous being the Michigan Central Train Station.  Mr. Maroun is fighting the construction of a new Bridge between Detroit and Windsor but at the same time, he would like to build a span next to the Ambassador Bridge.

Canada has stated repeatedly that they do not want another span next to the Ambassador Bridge as it would destroy a residential area on their side.  Mr. Moroun has tried to destroy the area around the Ambassdor Bridge.  At one time, the Riverside Park was closed off because of some of his shenanigans.  He has been in and out of court with the state over things that he is supposed to build on the Bridge so that truck traffic can get right off the freeway onto the Bridge and vice versa.  Currently trucks are tearing up the surface streets because there is no direct way from the freeway to the Bridge.

Now he has bought enough Representatives to tie up any legislation authorizing the new bridge despite Canada's dangling of the bulk of the money for a new bridge.  I guess the thousands he's paid to those guys is worth more than the hundreds of millions that Canada is willing to put up.  I seriously hope that Snyder makes good on his promise to get the new Bridge built.

Several other people have written about this.
