One of the little gems at the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse is the pilothouse from the former steamer Calcite. Sadly, we arrived too late in the day to look around it but one of these days.
The Calcite was built in 1912 in Wyandotte, Michigan by the Detroit Shipbuilding Company.
The ship was built for the Michigan Limestone and Chemical Company and started as a self-unloader. She was run by Bradley Transportation. She was roughly 400 feet long.
She served well until 1961 when she was scrapped in Conneaut, Ohio.
I'm not sure how the pilothouse found its way to Rogers City, but here it is.
There is also a lifeboat and I think a few other things from her.
And this is how the pilothouse looked while it was still attached to the ship.
