Since I spend a fair amount of time around the river, I get to see the Coast Guard a little more than your average person. And quite honestly, I think they perform a pretty thankless job.
The Coast Guard is responsible for harbor security, border patrol (to some extent), maritime law enforcement, drug enforcement, search and rescue, maritime safety and maintenance of navigational aids. That is quite a full plate and it sometimes it seems like they don't get much love in Washington.
Oh well, I think they do a pretty fine job. So my heartfelt thanks goes out to the Coast Guard.
