As I was taking pictures, I looked off to the north and I saw a boat racing towards the lighthouse. As it got closer, I realized that it was a Coast Guard boat. The Coast Guard has been pretty busy the past few weeks trying to get the ice cleared so that the ships can go through.
However, this wasn't an ice breaker. This is a 47 foot motor life boat. It is used in rescue situations on the high seas. It is also a self righting boat, so it will flip up if turned over.
Anyway, they were returning to the Coast Guard station near the lighthouse. It was still pretty cool to see.
It turns into the channel.
A closeup of the crew.
Another shot of the crew.
And the boat starts to pass by.
A couple more shots.
A shot of the channel itself.
