Here is the Worm Moon

I knew that it was the full moon tonight.  It has been a while since I've taken a picture of the full moon so I decided to take one.

The March full moon is called the worm moon.  It is the last full moon of winter.
Originally, it was thought that it was called the worm moon because this is roughly the time of year when the worms start stirring and the birds have their food source again.  Apparently, that is partially true.  It is called the worm moon because the beetle larvae is crawing out of the thawed bark of trees.
The name comes from the Native Americans, Colonial Americans and Europeans.  It is also called the Lenten Moon, the Crow Moon, Chaste Moon, Sugar Moon and Sap Moon.  Presumably the last two are because this is roughly the time that maple sugar starts running.

I tried three different settings.  The first one might be too dark, the second too light, the third seems to be right between the two.

Under the Strawberry Moon

The Native Americans call this the strawberry moon because it is around the time that the wild strawberries are about to be harvested.
Sometimes it is also called the honey or mead moon.  In Europe is called the Rose Moon.

The Moon Over South Haven

As I was watching the lighthouse, I looked behind me.  The moon looked pretty neat in the setting sun.
While I don't think this was the full moon, it was pretty close.  The March full moon is called the worm moon.  It is called the worm moon because this is roughly when the earthworms start to appear.

And on a side note, I'm not sure how the coronavirus is going to affect things on this blog.  Mainly because I don't know how it is going to affect other things.  I am hearing that they have more cases in Ohio.  Here in Michigan, they are closing schools left and right.  We're even making contingencies at work in case we need to work from home.

It would be nice if people would calm down but I can understand.  The future looks scary but we've been through stuff like this before.
