I headed up to the Soo today. Tomorrow is Engineer's Day. I'm hoping that I will see a couple ships anyway.
My dad was driving, so I got a chance to get a picture of a ship as I was heading over the bridge. This is the Vlieborg of Wagenborg. Not sure where she was headed though.

Michigan Exposures Hits the Road
I headed up to the Upper Peninsula yesterday. I wanted to catch Engineer's Day at the Soo Locks today. As always, when I get home, I will post more pictures.

The Mackinac Bridge at Night
All four of these pictures are from roughly the same spot, but they all have different exposure settings. One of the things I like about my SLR is that I can set it manually if I have to. The auto exposure settings are nice but sometimes they try to make the picture too bright for what I am looking for. This is often tricky at twilight when I am looking for a slightly darker picture.
This picture was using about 1 step darker than the camera recommended. I kind of like it because the bridge stands out pretty well against the night sky.
And this one is a step or two brighter than the recommended settings. I think I like it the best of the three because the bridge stands out really nice. I just wish the lake was a little calmer so that I could have gotten the lights reflected against it. Oh well.

This one is the same settings but I wanted to take another picture just in case.
This one is about 2 stops darker than the recommended settings. It almost looks like a complete night shot.

Also, if you are trying to take a picture of the bridge at night...don't use your flash.

The Mackinaw Bridge
If you haven't figured it out yet, I love to go up to the Upper Pennisula. I love the looks of the Mackinaw Bridge, so I will always stop to snap some pictures.

This is a shot from over by the McGulpin Point Lighthouse. It makes for a really nice shot of the bridge and you can pretty much see it's whole span. And it takes on a delicate appearance from a distance.

A shot of the seagulls in essence.

A closer shot from that spot.

This time my mom drove, so I was able to get some pictures as we were going over.

Another shot.

A shot looking up as we were passing. I had the camera firmly strapped to my hand as I was doing this.

This is the toll booth as you head up.

This is an almost night shot from the St. Ignace side.

A night shot from the Mackinaw City side. It looks really nice all lit up like this.

Another shot.
