Next Up, the Mark W. Barker

 The next ship was coming around the bend as the last ship was leaving.

I'm not sure where the Mark W. Barker was coming from.

She was heading over to Burns Harbor.

I'm not sure what that means she was carrying.  I'm going to guess she was carrying iron from Toledo.

Missed the bow shot though.

She's a nice looking ship.

It helps that she was actually built on the Great Lakes.

It would be nice if they did more though.

And then I went to my drone.  I didn't get in front of her.

But I do like this shot.

Switched back to my other camera because the next ship was coming into view.

Catching the Mark W. Barker on a Nice Windy Day

 I looked at Marine Traffic today.  I didn't see too much stirring but I saw a ship I wouldn't mind catching coming down, so I decided to head out.  I had a little while.

First up was the Mark W. Barker.

I'm not sure where she was coming from.

But she was heading to Fairport which is in Ohio.

I think it is east Cleveland.

I wouldn't mind catching a ship there some day but it will have to wait.

It was a little on the windy side, so I was getting some nice bow spray.

I will have to admit, she is a pretty cool looking ship.

But a very functional looking ship.

It wasn't too windy that I couldn't switch to my drone though.

But I kept it low.

That gave me some issues catching some of the next shots.

She continues down the river.

Catching a Rhino

 The next ship was fairly close behind.  In fact, I missed a few angles but that's okay.

The Mark W. Barker was heading up from Detroit.

Again, I'm not sure where she was before that because Detroit was a fueling stop.

She's heading over to Green Bay.

Not sure what she is carrying though.

I'm going to guess that she is carrying stone though.

There's been quite a few ships heading to Green Bay lately.

They might be doing some construction nearby.

Catching Up With the Mark W. Barker

This the other ship that I was hoping to catch.

The Mark W. Barker is one of the newer residents to the Great Lakes.

She was completed at Sturgeon Bay last year and spent the last couple months of the season doing shakedown type stuff (while delivering cargo of course).

I was able to catch her once last year and the drone pictures were not the greatest.

So I was happy to catch her this year.

She's built for getting into some of the smaller ports on the Great Lakes.

I think her hull has been designed so that she can haul salt.

Her cargo holds carry more cargo.

She's not a bad looking ship.  She was heading down to Lorain with a load of stone.
