A Wolverine Sort of Day

The snow that I caught at Grand Haven seemed to catch up with me on Sunday Night.  I was planning on going to the Auto Show with my dad but it was nastier up his way.  Rather than the "fun" of dealing with traffic to Detroit, I decided to stay home.

 However, I couldn't pass up on catching pictures of the Wolverine.  Especially in the snow.

 I just love the way it kicks up the snow.  Yesterday's snow was powdery enough that it made for a nice picture.

 It passes the Depot.

 And approaches me.

 The sun was trying to make an effort to come out.

More of the Cherry Maples

It snowed again today.  It wasn't too bad this time as it didn't stick to the roads, so they weren't very slippery.  People seemed to drive normally for the most part.  But we still got enough that it made things look very pretty.

 It looked really nice at some places on the way to work but I couldn't really stop to get pictures.

 But I could get some pictures of the cherry maples that we have in front of work. 

 The sun was still in sun rise mode, so I gave a slight orangish tint to everything.

 But I did kind of like the ones in the shade.

 But I did like the sunlight because it was the almost direct light.

 I like the snow in this one.

 I think I really like this one.

I'm not as happy with these shots because I was shooting through the windows.

I tried to get a different shot of the shadows for this one.  I like the ones I first saw but I'm not terribly sure about this one.

Cherry Maples in the Snow

So it snowed today.  Fortunately, it didn't stick.  It's supposed to be a cold one tomorrow, so I may end up passing on the football.  But I hear that the Sykes may be passing Detroit on her way home.  so there's that.

 I decided to head outside of the office to get some pictures of the cherry maples.  I liked the way the snow was on them.

 I was trying some different angles.  I kind of liked this one because I think I got some of the snow falling in the picture.

 I'm not quite sure about this one.  But I kind of liked the drops coming off the cherries.

 but I really like this one.  I would love to try to get reflections in the water drop.

Unfortunately, the snow was gone by lunchtime, so I didn't have a chance to get more pictures.  I did like how this picture turned out though.

Because it was the first snowfall of the year, it was a fun drive this morning.  It seems like people forget what to do and the first few snows are fun driving.  Oh well.

The Starlight Snowverine

After walking at the gym, I saw that I had an opportunity to catch the evening Wolverine as it passed Ypsilanti.  It was snowing and I was losing my light rapidly, so I wasn't sure I would catch it.  As I was about ready to give up, I heard its horn.

 I wish it were a little brighter because I think this picture would look even cooler in the light.  Not that I don't mind this picture.

 As it got a little closer, it got a little lighter.  This might have more to do with the train lights not shining into my camera.

 The snow was coming down quite a bit at this point.

 A shot as it started to pass.

And one more after it passed and it was kicking up quite a bit of snow.

Spring Can't Come Soon Enough

So over the weekend we had temperatures reach in the upper 60's around home.  I think they hit the low 70's in Fostoria.  Monday was still in the upper 50's and then yesterday we get hit with a snow/ice storm and today was back down in the upper 20's/low 30's.  It's supposed to get into the high 30's/40's over the weekend, so I am hoping that we had our last bit of snow for the season.

 So I was hoping to get some winter shots as I was driving into work today but things didn't quite cooperate with that.  As I was heading into the office, I saw a bunch of robins in the trees in front of the office, so I decided to put the big lens on.

 Normally the first robins you see are ones that probably stayed behind for the winter.  Not all robins migrate to the south.   It seems like those are in small groups though.  This seemed to be too large of a group to have stayed here.

 I think they were eating the berries that are in our cherry maple trees.

 At any rate, it was pretty nice to see some robins.  Even if they are robins that stayed behind, this is normally a sign that spring is around the corner.

 And the trees make for a pretty background for the robins.

 Some of them weren't as shy as the others.

 And I think that these made for better pictures.

I'm pretty sure that this one is hoping that spring comes much sooner.

Winter Aftermath

We got quite a bit of snow yesterday and last night.  While I don't really like driving it, I don't mind taking pictures of it.  Pristine snow can be quite nice, especially if there is some in the trees.  I did end up going to work today, so that's where I got my pictures.

 There was a nice layer in the trees.  One of the things that I like about where I work is that we have some pretty nice surroundings.

 it wouldn't be a series of pictures of my workplace without pictures of the birch trees in front of the building.

 The wheat stalks weren't quite was I looking for though.

 Another angle of the birch trees.  Unfortunately, the cherry maples didn't have as much snow as I would have liked.

 Then I went behind the building.  We have some really nice trails back there.

 Some of the snow in the evergreens.

 The milkweed looked particularly cool.

 Same with the thistles.

 Didn't like this one as much though.

 This was pretty cool.

 then I tried to seek out some pine cones.

Winter's Last Blast...Hopefully

After a fairly nice weekend, we got a fair amount of snow today.  It started with rain earlier in the morning and turned to snow as I was heading into work.  That made things interesting as I was trying to get into work.

 I normally take Ellsworth towards work and it was a zoo.  I was thinking of turning around but I was too far into it.

 For as bad as this looked, I-94 looked worse.  I saw a couple of cars on the side of the road but for the most part it was fine if you were careful.

 For a more idyllic picture, I decided to take a picture of my favorite barn.  There was enough snow on the ground that it looked pretty nice.

 As you can see, the snow was falling pretty hard as I was taking my picture.  It was also a little windy side, so it was going straight.

As much as I don't like driving in it, snow does make for nice scenery.
