And One More Thing...

As I was heading back home, I saw that there was a train parked by The Tire.

I decided to get off the freeway and stop to get some pictures.

Unfortunately, it started to move and I didn't get the picture that I really wanted.

But it was still cool to see.

I was able to get some different angle.

Not quite the picture of The Tire I wanted.

I was happy to see a BNSF engine too.

I like this shot a little better but the tire is still not visible enough.

Catching a Pair of Trains

 So I was heading down I-94 to my next destination and I saw a train near the tire.  I decided to stop and get some pictures.

I thought I was going to get a picture of Canadian Pacific engine, but that was the outer train.

I was happy to see a BNSF engine though as I haven't seen one of these around here in a while.

The Train and the Tire

 I still had a little time before I had to be down at Belle Isle.  I saw that there was a train stopped at a place where I can get a pretty good picture of it.  So I turned around and headed over there.

As you can see, we had a fair amount of snow.

It was a pair of engines in front of a long string of autoracks.

It was waiting to go into the Allen Park yard.

I kind of like this shot.

I like the chance that I get to get a closeup shot of the engines.  Although there was a fair amount of snow.

I like this shot a little better.

One of the things that I like about this is that you can get a sense of place.

The tire is a fairly unique landmark to the Detroit area.

A Few Shots of a Train

 I decided to stop at a spot where I could get a couple pictures of the train.

It's kind of a nice spot and you can catch trains as they enter or leave the Allen Park Yard.

It's a pretty nice view too.

Sometimes they are stopped here, so you can get multiple angles.  One of these days, I'd like to play with my drone here.

A Union Pacific Engine in Allen Park

As I was heading out to catch the Jackson, I notice an engine parked near the tire.  Since timing on the Jackson was tight, I was hoping that it would still be there when I got back.

 And sure enough it was.  I don't normally see a Union Pacific engine in my neck of the woods but with engine leasing and what not, it happens.

 Based on the condition of the engine, it looks like it was an older one though.

 I decided to get a few different angles of it, since it was just sitting there.

 It's actually not too bad of a spot to catch trains.  I just wish I had a better idea of how many trains pass through there.

 I wanted to get the tire in the shot too.

 The tire was created from a ferris wheel from the New York 1964 World's Fair.  It has been here since 1966.   At one point there was a giant nail sticking from it to advertise the run flat ability.  At one point, there used to be a giant sign that would show U.S. truck and car production but that has been torn down.

One more shot of the engine before heading home.  I was going to go plane watching for a bit but I didn't see anything terribly interesting.

Brief Trainwatching in Allen Park

As I was leaving the spot where I was planewatching, I was going to head to the spot on Wick Road.  However, I saw a train that was heading east and I decided to head over to the spot in Allen Park where I can watch trains.

 As I arrived, there was train heading out of the yard.  Just one of the normal switcher cars.

 Not sure where it was headed.

 It is pretty unusual to see a caboose but I have seen a couple.

 The train I wasn't expecting, passes the one I was chasing.
