The Train and the Tire

 I still had a little time before I had to be down at Belle Isle.  I saw that there was a train stopped at a place where I can get a pretty good picture of it.  So I turned around and headed over there.

As you can see, we had a fair amount of snow.

It was a pair of engines in front of a long string of autoracks.

It was waiting to go into the Allen Park yard.

I kind of like this shot.

I like the chance that I get to get a closeup shot of the engines.  Although there was a fair amount of snow.

I like this shot a little better.

One of the things that I like about this is that you can get a sense of place.

The tire is a fairly unique landmark to the Detroit area.

A Few Shots of a Train

 I decided to stop at a spot where I could get a couple pictures of the train.

It's kind of a nice spot and you can catch trains as they enter or leave the Allen Park Yard.

It's a pretty nice view too.

Sometimes they are stopped here, so you can get multiple angles.  One of these days, I'd like to play with my drone here.

A Norfolk Southern Engine and the Tire

As I was heading home, I saw this guy parked in front of the tire.

 I like it when I can get pictures of stuff with familiar landmarks in them.  And you can't get much more familiar that the tire.  The frame of the tire was a Ferris wheel in the 1964 New York World's fair.  It was moved to Detroit in 1966.

A Union Pacific Engine in Allen Park

As I was heading out to catch the Jackson, I notice an engine parked near the tire.  Since timing on the Jackson was tight, I was hoping that it would still be there when I got back.

 And sure enough it was.  I don't normally see a Union Pacific engine in my neck of the woods but with engine leasing and what not, it happens.

 Based on the condition of the engine, it looks like it was an older one though.

 I decided to get a few different angles of it, since it was just sitting there.

 It's actually not too bad of a spot to catch trains.  I just wish I had a better idea of how many trains pass through there.

 I wanted to get the tire in the shot too.

 The tire was created from a ferris wheel from the New York 1964 World's Fair.  It has been here since 1966.   At one point there was a giant nail sticking from it to advertise the run flat ability.  At one point, there used to be a giant sign that would show U.S. truck and car production but that has been torn down.

One more shot of the engine before heading home.  I was going to go plane watching for a bit but I didn't see anything terribly interesting.

Catching the Train

As I was leaving the airport, I saw a train passing by so I decided to head over to Allen Park to see if I could catch it.

 Fortunately, there was another train in front of it, so I was able to catch it.

 It was pretty neat because I was able to get some other angles.
