A Norfolk Southern Engine Over the Southfield Freeway

As I was heading back from the park, I saw that there was an engine stopped over the road.  I've always wanted a shot like this, so I stopped my car to get a picture of it.

I was hearing a few train horns as I was taking pictures of the Alpena, so I was hoping to catch a train.  Well, this gave me the opportunity.

Last Trip of the Season for the Alpena

I saw that the Arthur M. Anderson and the Alpena were coming down today.  I wasn't in the mood to drive over to Port Huron to catch the Arthur M. Anderson and it would have been dark by the time she passed Detroit.  And I thought that I would be able to catch the Alpena as she was passing Belanger Park.

As I got to Belanger Park, there was a sign that said it was closed for construction.  I assume that means they are doing some repairs and renovations to it.  I'm not sure how long that will be.  At any rate, it meant I had to find another spot.
I remembered that there was a little park at the end of the Southfield Freeway that offered a view of the river.  It is named after John Dingell and it is in Ecorse.  Like so many of the parks in the area, people don't take care of it though, so it was a little on the messy side.
I also remembered it was pretty much just a beam shot but that was all I was going to get anyway unless I could catch her in Cleveland.
Anyway, the lighting was good and I was glad to get her.
She was heading down from Alpena to Cleveland and I'm pretty sure that means it's her last trip of the season.
I think I saw that a couple of eagles live near this park.  I might have to check that out some day.
So until next season, see you later Alpena.

And the Belanger Park Lighthouse

I still had a little bit of time before the Kaye E. Barker made her appearance, so another picture.

After Grosse Ile, I headed over to Belanger Park.  At one end of the park is a lighthouse.  This light was built in 2004 and is known as the River Rouge Mariners Memorial.  It is an actual aid to navigation.

The Ojibway Still at Rest

These posts are going to be a little out of order so that I can group all my Kaye Barker pictures in the same post.  Next I headed up to Belanger Park in Ecorse in order to catch some other pictures of the Barker.

While I was waiting to catch the Barker, I looked across the river and I saw the Ojibway as she was laid up in Windsor.  I'm not sure how long she is going be staying there as she is mostly used for grain.  I'm pretty sure she'll get moving once grain season starts though.  She's a cool looking ship and it helps that she is from my home town.
