Next Up, the Federal Cedar

 Next up was a bonus ship that I was not expecting to catch.

As I was keeping an eye on the river, I noticed that were was a ship that was docked near the grain elevator was starting to move.

I thought it was pretty cool since it was a salty and I like the variety they add to the river.

I think she was heading up to Thunder Bay.

I presume that she will be picking up grain there.

I also presume that she will be taking it back overseas.

She passes the Gordie Howe Bridge and Baie Comeau.

She is a nice looking ship.

And then I switched to my drone.

I think it is cool that there is a helipad.

I think these ships can also carry containers.

But they have bulk holds too.

The Federal Cedar at the Nicholson Dock

 After getting pictures of the Cuyahoga, I decided that I wanted to see how far my drone would go.  I figured that might be useful information for the future.

The Federal Cedar was docked at Nicholson.  I think she was coming in from overseas because AIS reported her origin as Port Weller.  I think AIS keeps the last port they visited, so it wasn't her origin.

I couldn't fly my drone too high because of the wind.  It was starting to pick up while I was there.  This was about as far as I could go.  I think there may be a way to set my maximum distance but I don't want to go out too far because I don't want to lose it.  Anyway, still made for a pretty cool picture.

 

The Federal Cedar Gets Grain

One nice thing about Del Ray Park is that you get a pretty good view of the lower part of the Detroit River.  You are almost right across the river from the Windsor Fuel Docks.  You are pretty close to Zug Island and you get decent views of the other docks.

The Federal Cedar was getting grain from the Windsor grain elevator.  She is one of many salties that is operated by Federal Navigation.  As I type this post, she is on her way to Rotterdam.  I will have to admit that is pretty amazing.  I don't have many details on her though.
