The Federal Champlain Docked

 Just before the Arthur Anderson came into view, I decided to get a picture of this ship.

She was docked at the Nicholson docks.  I think she might have been unloading coil steel but I'm not sure where she was coming from.  Nor am I sure where she is heading to.

The Federal Champlain Upbound in Port Huron

 The next ship was kind of a surprise for me.  I wasn't paying attention to the upbound ships.

The Federal Champlain was coming into the Great Lakes from overseas.

I'm not sure exactly where she was coming from as Marine Traffic shows her origin to be Port Colborne.

Port Colborne is the Lake Erie part of the Welland Canal.  So that means she came through the Welland.

She was heading to Burns Harbor.

I'm not sure if she is loaded in this picture.

But she is on her way to Burns Harbor.

Of course I switched to my drone.

Again, I was still trying a low angle.

Anyway, I would imagine she would pick up coils of steel in Burns Harbor.

I'm not sure where she would take them after that.

But at any rate, I love catching these ships.

And I can see why it is called Blue Water.

The Federal Champlain at the Nicholson Dock

Occasionally, I will see ships unloading at Nicholson Dock.  Most of the time they are salties and I think they are unloading steel that they bring over from Europe.

 Today,  I saw the Federal Champlain.  I'm not sure if they use the ship cranes in unloading but it's pretty neat looking.

I pulled the camera back a little bit to get the Champlain and Arthur M. Anderson.

An occasional benefit of going down to Riverside Park is that you can see ships unloading at Nicholson Docks.  These are usually foreign vessels unloading steel coils.

It turns out that this is a vessel that hasn't appeared on this blog before.  The Federal Champlain is a new visitor to the Great Lakes because she is a new vessel.  She was built by Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan.  She is basically similar to the other Federal Navigation vessels.
