A Brief Stop in Cincinnati

Last week, I had to go down to Toyota in Georgetown, Kentucky for a presentation on some quality issues.  It was a nice day as I was heading back, so I first stopped at the plane spotting park for the Cincinnati Airport.

The spotting park is in a pretty nice location.  It gives a pretty decent view of most of the runways (except for the one that is behind the buildings in this picture).  Sadly, I did not have my proper camera so all these pictures were taken with my cell phone but that proves the adage that the best camera is the one you have with you.  Unfortunately, I had to use the maximum zoom, so quite a bit of detail was lost.
This was a Kalitta Air 747 that was getting loaded for somewhere.
An American Airlines Airbus A320.  I'm not sure where this was coming in from because I can't really read the tail numbers but I do like the picture.
A 737 belonging to Amazon.  It was pretty cool to see some liveries that I don't normally see.
A hawk that was flying around near the park.
An United Airlines Embrear.
This Embrear belonged to American Airlines.
A Frontier Airlines plane coming in.  This had the Grizzly Bear on the tail.
This is an A330 that belongs to Amazon.
After the stop at the airport, I stopped at Devou Park.  I love the view of Cincinnati from here.  It was still a nice enough day.
I was able to catch a river barge as she sailed along the Ohio River.
Another view of the Cincinnati skyline.  Again, I wish I had my proper camera.
One more view of the river barge before moving on my way.

I apologize that I haven't done many updates to my blog lately.  It has been pretty cold lately and I haven't felt up to dealing with that.  I think it's supposed to start warming up again, so that will help.

Brian Blessed for the Win

As I was heading back, I saw this hawk land on top of a telephone pole.  I stopped to take a picture.

The lighting was just about right but I'm not sure what kind of hawk it was.
The tail doesn't seem red enough, so I don't think it was a red-tailed hawk.  I'm guessing it was a Cooper's hawk.
It didn't take long for him to decide to head somewhere elese.
As he was flying away.
I like this shot.

If you are asking about the title, Brian Blessed played Hawkman in Flash Gordon.

And a Hawk

As I was heading back home, I saw this guy.

Just a hawk sitting in a tree.

A Stop at Ottawa Today

It was a pretty nice day today, so I decided to head down to Ottawa Wildlife Preserve.  I was hoping I would see some eagles but didn't end up being the case but I did see some other things.

I missed my chance to get a picture of a cardinal but I did get some pictures of this starling.
It is a pretty nice looking bird.
But the American lotus was in bloom and that kind of made up for other things.
These are pretty cool looking flowers.
The light was almost perfect.
One more at this spot.
I think this flower is called a marsh mallow.
More American lotus.
I kind of like that this picture has the middle part.
And my last one.
Another marsh mallow.
As I was leaving the park, I saw this hawk.  Unfortunately, it was in heavy blacklight but with a little work, I was able to make a decent picture.
I actually like this picture a little better.

A Bird of the Feathered Sort

As I was leaving Willow Run, I saw this guy on the side of the road.  I had to turn around to get some pictures.

With the light it was worth it.  I think this is a red tailed hawk, but I am not sure.
It was cool to see though.  And like I said, my lighting was perfect for it.

Catching a Hawk

As I was heading down to catch the Kaye Barker again, I saw this guy trying to pick up a road kill.

He wasn't able to grab it but he landed on a pole.
I turned around so I could get some pictures of him.
I think it's a cooper's hawk, but I'm not sure.
He didn't try to grab the road kill again.
Oh well.

Catching a Hawk

I decided to head up north again to try and get pictures of snowy owls.  Apparently, the snowy owls had other ideas because I didn't see any.

As I was heading home, I saw this guy on the side of the road as I got on River Road.  I thought it was a pretty good picture when I took it.  And it turns out it wasn't too bad.
But I think he thought I was too close, so he flew off.

A Hawk Flies Near Metro Airport

After catching the Mesabi Miner, I saw that there was a plane I might be able to catch.

As I was waiting for that plane, I heard a sound and I looked.
I saw this hawk flying out of the trees across the street.
With some cropping he was close enough to get some pictures.

An Airshow From One of the Feathered Residents

As I was watching the Snowbirds, I was getting an airshow of a different sort.

This hawk started to fly closer.  I think he was looking for food.
He stayed by me for a while.
And just before he passed me.

A Hawk Grabs Lunch

So on Sunday I headed down to the Point Mouille Game Reserve.  It is just north of Monroe and on Lake Erie. I was there one other time but I only drove by it.  This time I actually went into the park.

I didn't see much in the park but as I was leaving, I saw this hawk flying around.  I stopped the car and got a picture as he was returning from wherever he went.
It turns out that he was grabbing lunch and that lunch was a snake.  I didn't realize it at the time but when I got home and saw the pictures.
I think this is a red tailed hawk but I'm not sure.
One more picture.
