On Thursday night, I finally made to Huntington Beach. When I'm out in California, I try to make it there at least once because I like to get pictures of surfers. There are always surfers there.
A shot of the beach looking north. It looks like the stereotypical California beach.
Looking down the pier. I think there is a really cool pier here. One of these days, I will have to eat at the restaurant and the end.
Now looking south. As you can see if was a pretty hazy day.
A surfer about to wipe out.
A surfer riding the waves.
I kind of like this one.
I don't normally get a shot of a surfer near the tube but the waves were pretty high.
Another one.
I kind of like the curves in this one. For some reason it reminds me of a Japanese print.
Someone doing tricks. Of all the times I've been doing this, I don't think I've ever gotten a shot like this.
Another swirl picture.
Looking north again.
Looking touth.
I kind of liked the looks of this one.
I think I would have liked the looks of this one more if the seagull were exposed correctly.
There is a kite dealer on the pier and I liked the looks of this one.
The Flying Dutchman.
I really liked the looks of this one.
A street musician. He was pretty decent.
The group of flags they always have flying.
I think the California flag is one of my favorites.
The group of flags from another angle.
The Huntington Beach flag looks pretty cool.
This was a different looking seagull.
Looking down Main Street.
I really love this row of palm trees.
The statue of Duke Kahanamoku. He was a surfing champion from the early 1900's.
Another angle of his statue.
Looking up at a palm tree.
I didn't have too many wandering opportunities this time. It gets dark earlier in California, so when I did get out, I didn't have that much time. But I was glad to get down to the beach once.

Today at Huntington Beach
So I finally made it down to Huntington Beach. I guess it's become a tradition when I'm out here and I do enjoy it.
This was almost one of my favorite pictures but I think I have a few others that I like a little better. As always, I will post more when I get home.

Kitesurfing on Lake Huron
One of the things I like about doing this blog is the occasional times I get to see different activities that people do. So we headed to Tawas Point to take pictures of the lighthouse and then my mom noticed the kites and pointed them out to me. I looked and thought they were kind of interesting but I wasn't sure if I was going to take pictures of them. Then I looked at the cars in the lot and noticed some surfboards, so that piqued my interest.
The kites looked kind of cool as I was approaching the beach.
There were some different varieties.
But what was cooler was the fact that people were using the kites for surfing. I kind of wish I would have caught some of the other scenes because people would leap out of the water too.
Some interesting clothing.
Almost reminds me of proper surfing.
But not quite.
Some shots of the kites again.
I kind of like this kite. I wonder if the bull is because this another one of those Red Bull type things?
Just so you get an idea of just how far out the kite is.
A shot of the beach.
And one last shot of a kite. I'll have to say that it looks pretty interesting.

And Surfers? In Michigan?
I apologize for the blurriness of these pictures. I'm not sure why they are blurry but they are. At any rate, I've heard that some people will surf in Michigan but I've never seen it before until yesterday. I've seen windsurfing but not surfing surfing.
Unfortunately, I only saw them padding out. I didn't see them try to surf back. I think the waves may not have been high enough.
This person actually almost got to surfing back.

Huntington Beach, California
So on occasion, I travel outside of Michigan and Michigan Exposures becomes a travelogue of sorts. One of the places I visit fairly often because of work is Southern California and this week I happen to be there. One of the places I like to visit here is Huntington Beach.
No, I didn't eat this hamburger. It was on display outside one of the restaurants here and quite honestly, I can't say that I would even want to eat it. I guess there is pulled pork, onion rings, pineapple, egg and some other stuff. Maybe if it wasn't so big. Oh well.
This is a shot of one of the buildings on Main Street in Huntington Beach. I'm going to guess that this area had a resurgance at one point.
Looking up at a palm tree.
This is a statue of a surfing champion. Huntington Beach is a pretty good area for surfing. Every so often they host surfing championships.
Another angle of that statue.
The flag of the State of California.
A pelican diving for dinner.
I'm not sure why this person was using an oar for surfing but I kind of like this picture.
