And A Bonus Ship

As I was getting ready to leave, I saw that there was another ship making her way down.

 The Tecumseh was on her way to Toledo.

 I think she might have been carrying grain, but she seemed to be riding too high for that.

So she may have been going down to Toledo to pick up some grain.

And the Tecumseh Wasn't Too Far Behind

And the Tecumseh wasn't too far behind the Algosea.

 I'm actually not where where she was heading from or where she was going. 

 She may have been on her way to Thunder Bay.  As a straight decker, it's likely she would be carrying some sort of grain product.

 If that's the case, that is nearly a two day journey from this point.  It might have taken longer because Saturday was a pretty nasty day on Lake Superior.

 It has been a while since I've seen the Tecumseh.

 I kind of like her because she retains some of the classic lines of an ocean going ship.

 If I remember correctly, she was built in Seattle.

 I think she may have been used by the Navy at one point.

 Like I said, she retains some of those lines.

 And here she is about to pass the Herbert C. Jackson.  It makes a good contrast between a salt water vessel and a classic laker.

 And they get a little closer.

And she continues on her way.

And Next the Tecumseh

Next up is the Tecumseh.

 She is on her way upbound.

 And I presume that she is on her way to Thunder Bay.  As I type this, that is where she is going now.

 I think she is mostly a grain hauler but she can carry other stuff.

 The lighting was just about perfect.

One more shot because I like it.

The Tecumseh Passes Algonac

The CSL Welland was closely followed by the next ship.

 The Tecumseh just had her five year certification completed.  Part of that was that she got a new paint job.

 Based on so many ships lately, it was nice to see a ship that was freshly painted.  she almost looked like a new ship.

 I believe this was the return trip of her first trip out of five year certification.

The Tecumseh Makes an Appearance

The first proper ship that I caught on Saturday was the Tecumseh.

 The Tecumseh is headed to Sorel which is to the northeast of Montreal.  It is getting pretty close to leave the St. Lawrence Seaway.

 I presume that she is carrying a load of grain from Thunder Bay.

 I was shooting from a slightly different spot on Saturday, so it gave me some different angles.

The Tecumseh at the Grain Elevator

There were quite a few vessels on the river during the cruise.

 So the first ship I ran across was the Tecumseh while she was docked at the grain elevator in Windsor.  I'm not sure if she was loading or unloading though.

 At any rate, it was pretty cool to get pictures of her from the boat.  Especially since the captain moved to get better angles.

 I really like this angle.  It reminds me of the angles I'd get from the short.

Waking Up to the Tecumseh

Friday night I took a look at AIS and saw that there were two ships passing Port Huron that I would be interested in.  One of them was the Alpena and the other was the American Spirit.  Unfortunately they were going to be passing around 8 in the morning which meant I had to get up a bit earlier than that.  The Alpena is worth getting up for in my opinion.

 My first ship was somewhat unexpected though.  I didn't notice the Tecumseh on AIS but that's okay because she's a pretty nice looking ship...for a rear decker.  As you can see, the sky was a little mixed.

 She starts to pour on a little smoke as she makes the turn towards the channel.

 I was standing in the spot where I could get the headshot and I really like this one.

 I pulled back the lens a bit to get the bridge.

 She makes her turn to continue down the river.

 Getting the almost full beam shot.

And she continues on her way.  I wasn't paying attention to where she was headed though.
