Calling for the Callaway

As I looked at Marine Traffic on Saturday.  It didn't look like a particularly busy day but it looked like an interesting day as I saw that two of the Great Lakes Fleet AAA vessels would be coming down the river at roughly the same time.
I headed up to Port Huron and I thought I had an outside chance to catch the Lufthansa 747, but that quickly changed as I saw her flying over me.  Unfortunately, that caused enough of a delay that I missed catching the Callaway in Port Huron, so I headed down to St. Clair.
While I prefer to catch ships in Port Huron.  St Clair isn't a bad place to catch them.  The background isn't too distracting and you get the three quarters shot.
I had to pick my spots to get her picture because there were far too many pleasure craft on the water.
While the Callaway is not a pleasure craft, she is certainly a pleasure to look at.  With her sister the Arthur Anderson out for a while, she has to pick up the slack.
 Getting my almost profile shot.
I just wish the boat weren't in the way.
I don't remember where she was heading from, but I think she was heading to Zug Island.
And one more view as she passes by.

Escargot, Rice-A-Roni and Hot Dogs at Detroit Metro

As I got home, I checked my FlightRadar app and I saw that I had a chance to catch the Air France plane after dinner.  So I hurried up and ate dinner and headed to the airport.

Apparently there was a little excitement down the road from me.  They had Wick Road closed around Wayne Road.  There was some kind of dispute.  Anyway...
First up was this 737 coming in for a landing from Salt Lake City.
For some reason, when I look at the cockpit of the 737, it reminds me of slicked back hair.  So I call it the "Cool Kid".
I kind of liked the pink clouds.  I makes for a nice background behind the 777.  I actually prefer clouds in my plane pictures.  I think they add something.
This particular 777 belongs to Air France and was heading in from Paris.  Hence the escargot part of my title.
I realize that the French are famous for other dishes, but it's what I could think of at the moment.
Normally, I don't post pictures with the planes this small, but I liked the way it looked against the clouds in the background.  I also noticed a trace of a vapor trail.
This particular plane was arriving in Detroit from San Francisco.  Hence the Rice-A-Roni part of my title.
Again, I realize that there are other dishes that San Francisco is famous for.  There's sourdough and chocolate.  I'm sure there are others.  But neither of those are called the "San Francisco treat".
And I ended the evening with a Boeing 717 coming in from O'Hare Airport.  Hence the hot dogs part of my title.
Again, I realize there are other things that Chicago is famous for.  But I do like the hot dogs.  I think Chicago style pizza is pretty good but it has to be made like they do.  It's more than just a deep dish pizza.

I was hoping to catch a ship tonight but as I got off at the Jefferson Ave exit, I looked at Marine Traffic and saw that she was docking in Windsor.  So the ship was a no go.

A Cessna Lands at Ann Arbor Airport

I had to get gas on Monday, so I decided to stop at the Speedway on the corner of State and Ellsworth.
One of the reasons that I like stopping there is that I get a decent view of the planes landing at Ann Arbor Airport.
I think this Cessna 152 was doing touch and goes and it was coming in as I was filling up.
It's kind of a neat looking plane.
 Just getting different angles.
 A flash of the light.
And one more shot before it passes by.

Watching the Herbert C. Jackson

The Herbert C. Jackson is another ship that I saw while I was up north.  Unfortunately, she was never in a spot where I could take a decent picture of her.
I think she was at Marquette where she would have loaded taconite.
She was on her way to Cleveland to deliver that load.
As I type this, this is back at Marquette picking up another load for somewhere.
She is a pretty nice looking ship and I don't get to see her often enough, even though she passes by fairly often.
She makes her turn for the channel.  One of the things I like about Port Huron is the fact that I can get head shots.
 She starts to pass by.
After she passed under the Blue Water Bridge.
 Almost a beam shot.
I like the clouds in this shot.
 The beam shot.
And she passes by.  It is about five hours to Detroit from this point and another 10 hours to Cleveland.

The Evans Spirit Passes By

I also wanted to catch another ship that I missed up at the Soo but it seemed that I was going to get a bonus ship.
The Evans Spirit was heading upbound from Detroit.  I'm not sure where she was heading but I think Thunder Bay comes to mind.
I think she's kind of a neat looking ship.  I love her paint scheme.
I'm not sure what those giant gray things are though.
She slowly makes her way by.
As I type this, she is on her way back from where she was going.  I think she just cleared the Locks and is on her way to Port Cartier as well.

She gets ready to enter Lake Huron.
She starts to pass under the Bridge.
One more shot.

Catching Up With the Tim S. Dool

So I was hoping to catch a ship while I was up at the Soo on Saturday.  I was able to see this ship but I would have been shooting into the sun to take it's picture.  Based on the time it was passing through the locks, I figured I would have a chance to catch her.
I figured out the time that she would be arriving at Port Huron.  I gave myself a little extra time because they had I-94 shut down.
She is the Tim S. Dool and from what I hear, wont be sailing after this season.
As I was taking this picture, she was on her way to Port Cartier, Quebec.  It is almost in the Atlantic Ocean.
I suspect that she is carrying a load of grain but I'm not 100% sure.
As I write this post, she is passing Montreal.  I think she would still be another day out from Port Cartier.
She makes another turn as she works her way to the channel.
She gets on the heading of the channel.  It's a pretty windy set of turns to get from Lake Huron to the St. Clair River.
She passes under the Blue Water Bridge.
 The beam shot.
And she shows her stern as she continues her way down the river.  She is definitely looking rough.
