The Big Sable Lighthouse

The Big Sable Lighthouse is on the property of the Ludington State Park. It's roughly a two mile hike from the main part of the part but it is a cool enough looking lighthouse to be worth the trip. Construction on the lighthouse stared in 1867. The lighthouse was orignally built of stone but that started to crumble, so they encased it in steel. It was difficult to see, so they added the black band.

You start to see the lighthouse peeking over the dunes.

This is the shot as you come around the bend. It's not a bad looking lighthouse.

Looking up at an odd angle.

The view from the back.

Looking up at the tower. It stands 112 feet tall, making it one of the tallest lighthouses in the state.

And some of the dunes on the way to the lighthouse.
