A Pair of Docked Tankers

After catching the Tregurtha, I decided to get dinner at a dinner in Port Huron.  Since I got drive thru, I decided to eat it at one of the parks nearby.  That particular park is in front one of the spots where tankers dock.

One of the tankers docked was my favorite, the Algonova.  I think she left last night but I'm not sure where she ended up heading to.
The other one docked there was the Algoterra.

It was pretty cool to get some night shots of ships.

And In this Corner, the Terra!

I had one more ship downbound.

I figured that I would stick around to get pictures of her.  Mainly because I like the colors.
The Algoterra was heading down from Sarnia.
She was heading to Nanticoke.
I think she was carrying Fuel Oil.
She is a pretty nice looking ship.
The orange hull really stands out.
I didn't have much juice left in my drone, so I had to be careful about the angles.
I like this one.
and I really like this one.
And the beam shot as she moves on her way.

And In This Corner, the Algoterra!

So this is the thing that I was out looking for.

The Locks are closed.  As a result, any ships that are moving are ones that ones that don't have to cross through the locks.
I think this particular ship was coming up from Nanticoke.
And it was heading back to Sarnia.
These typically go from Sarnia to Sault Ste. Marie or Nanticoke.  I think they are usually carrying fuel oil.
Anyway, I was happy enough to see a ship, that I headed out for one.
The water was almost calm enough.
But it was still pretty windy out.  So I didn't take my drone with me.
As it passed by.
It continues down to Sarnia.
Which isn't too far from here.

In This Corner the AlgoTerra!

So I went up to Port Huron on Sunday to catch some boats.  There were two that I was really interested in catching.  This one was first up though.  It was interesting to catch but not what I was after.

The AlgoTerra was coming down from Sault Ste. Marie (I think).  She was heading to Sarnia where she would be docking.
When I hear the name of this ship, I think of the wrestler that Bugs Bunny faced, the Terra!
The AlgoTerra is a tanker and I think she pretty much does the same route all season.
I kind of like her though.  Her color looks different amongst the other ships.
The first bow shot.  This is one of the reasons I like shooting at Port Huron.
The light was just about right.
Another angle.
I'm not sure what ship is in the background.
The other bow shot.
She starts to make the turn for the river.
One more shot with my normal camera.
And then I switched to my drone.
I've been trying to get lower angles but still higher than I could get with my camera.  I think I like the effect.
But as I try to get the whole ship, I have to pull back and go higher.
The almost beam shot.
She continues on her way.
She heads for her dock in Sarnia.  I think that's about a half hour from this spot.

The Algoterra at Rest

Occasionally, there are some ships that are resting at the dock in Sarnia.  Most of the time, they are waiting for dock space at the chemical docks.

I suspect that was the case this time as well.  The Algoterra waiting.

The Algoterra at Rest

 Again, while I was waiting.

I saw the Algoterra docked across the river in Sarnia.  The light was shining on her just right and there weren't a ton of pleasure craft in front of her.  I decided to take a picture of her.

The Algoterra at Rest

After going to the Rifle River Recreation Area, I saw that I had a chance to catch a ship that I've missing this shipping season.  So it was back down I-75 and over I-69 to Port Huron.

While I was waiting for my ship, I saw this ship.  It is the Algoterra and she was docked in Sarnia for some reason.  I think she might have been waiting for dock space at the chemical dock.  Anyway, it was nice to see her in nice light.

And Now.....the Terra!

So on June 9th, I went boatwatching with my dad.  I was hoping to catch a ship coming down.
I saw this ship and had to stop.  It is the Algoterra and is owned by Algoma Central (or maybe their tanker division).  She was originally built in 2010 as the Louise Knutsen.  She can carry 16,512 tons of cargo.  She was acquired by Algoma this year and came over here from Amsterdam.
