A Couple Pictures of Livingstone Lighthouse

Since I was at that part of the island, I decided to snap a couple of pictures.

 Livingstone Lighthouse is at the eastern end of the island (although I get confused sometimes and call it the northern end).

It is a pretty nice lighthouse.

Since I was at this part of the island, I decided to take a picture of the lighthouse.

I think this is still an active aid to navigation.  I think it is also the only lighthouse that is also a memorial.  It serves as a memorial to a gentleman that was President of the Lake Carriers Association.  In his time as President, he implemented many things that would improve the safety of shipping on the Lakes.

Another thing  I take pictures of while waiting.

 The Livingstone Lighthouse is at the end of the island.  If I remember correctly, it is the only marble lighthouse.  I think it is also the only memorial lighthouse.

I think it was also designed by Albert Kahn.

Just Some Shots of the Livingstone Lighthouse

I also went back to Belle Isle on Sunday.  In between shots of the ships on Saturday and Sunday, I decided to get some shots of the Livingstone Lighthouse.

 It seems like they are letting grass in this area of Belle Isle grow a little more than usual.  That makes it a little more difficult to walk around, but it's not too bad.

 It does make it look a little more like prairie land.

 Combining that with the lighthouse makes for a good picture.  I think.

 I liked the way the path looked because of the curve effect.

 I think I really like this picture.

But I like this one a little more.

Stopping at the Livingstone Lighthouse

In between planes, I saw that the Philip R. Clarke was making her way down past Detroit.  She's another one I haven't seen in a while, so I decided to go catch her.  That meant heading over to Belle Isle.

 I decided that I would go near to the end of the island to catch the Clarke.  Since I had a little time, I decided to get some closer pictures of the Livingstone Lighthouse.

 It's a nice lighthouse but it started to rain while I was back here.

 But I think weather makes for more interesting pictures.  I kind of liked the way the sky look.

 I kind of liked the reflection of the bridge tender's building in the water.  I think they were trying to cool the span.

The Livingstone Lighthouse

Since I was there, I figured I would grab a picture of the lighthouse.

I didn't want to get closer to it because I was hoping to catch the Alpena.

A Brief Visit to the Livingstone Lighthouse

I really liked the lighting this morning and I saw the way it was hitting the Livingstone Lighthouse.  After the Munson passed,  I decided to take a little walk over to the lighthouse.

 I really liked the colors on Belle Isle, although they seemed to be sparse.

 Looking at the plaque on the bottom.  This lighthouse is dedicated to a person that did a number of things for the Lake Carriers.  It is the only lighthouse that is also a memorial.

Wandering Around Belle Isle A Bit

I decided to make this a four day weekend, so I took today off.  As I looked at AIS last night, I saw that the Blough was heading to Ohio and that she'd pass Belle Isle around 8:00 A.M.  I decided to get up early and head down to Belle Isle.

 I'm not a morning person, so I don't usually get the morning light and I'll have to say that it is pretty nice.

 I had a little bit to catch the Blough, so I decided to take a few pictures around the Island.  First up was the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon.  It's funny, we have so many memorials to wars and people who fight in wars, but we don't have many dedicated to peace.

 At any rate, it's a pretty nice memorial.

 I don't think I've ever taken any pictures of the base of the tower before.  It looks like this is another thing on Belle Isle that needs work.

 Or more or less sweeping view of the Memorial.  I'll have to admit, it looks pretty peaceful here.
