I decided to make this a four day weekend, so I took today off. As I looked at AIS last night, I saw that the Blough was heading to Ohio and that she'd pass Belle Isle around 8:00 A.M. I decided to get up early and head down to Belle Isle.
I'm not a morning person, so I don't usually get the morning light and I'll have to say that it is pretty nice.
I had a little bit to catch the Blough, so I decided to take a few pictures around the Island. First up was the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon. It's funny, we have so many memorials to wars and people who fight in wars, but we don't have many dedicated to peace.
At any rate, it's a pretty nice memorial.
I don't think I've ever taken any pictures of the base of the tower before. It looks like this is another thing on Belle Isle that needs work.
Or more or less sweeping view of the Memorial. I'll have to admit, it looks pretty peaceful here.
A monument dedicated to the peace that we've had with Canada over the years.
One side is the Canadian seal.
The other side is the United States Seal.
A shot of the tower.
The koi pond near the Conservatory. The water was very calm today.
A shot of the front of the Aquarium.
Looking up at the details on the building.
Another angle of the Conservatory.
The pond on the opposite side of the Rocky Beach.
Another clump of trees.
I kind of like this view.
Since I wanted to catch the Blough at the end of Belle Isle, I took some pictures of the Livingstone Lighthouse.
Then I wandered around trying to get the direct light.
Looking up at the tower itself.
One more shot of the lighthouse.
