Miscellaneous Boats

 Sometimes there is a lull between ships.  When that happens, I take pictures of other things.

This sailboat was out on Lake Huron.  I kind of liked the looks of it.

A Collection of the Things on the River

So last Sunday I went down to Belle Isle.  There was a ship that I wanted to catch and it was a pretty nice day.  Belle Isle was pretty busy though and I almost didn't find a parking spot.  I was able to social distance though.
This is just some of the other things I see on the river.

 This guy was floating up the river.   He was moving pretty well up the river, of course it was a little on the windy side.

 I was happy to spot this heron.

 it flew overhead.  I think I like this shot the best.

As I was getting ready to leave, I heard the distinctive sound of the Dolphin on the other side of the island.

Watching a Sailboat Pass By

I saw this sailboat making her way up the river.

I like it when I can catch a sailboat under full sail.  I kind of wish I could catch one of the larger sailing vessels under sail.  Except I think I need to be out on the water to do that.

Moving on to Holland

So I continued up the Blue Star Highway through Saugatuck and on to Holland.  If I were doing something about the Blue Star Highway, I would have stopped to take pictures but today was a day for lighthousing.

 As I was getting out of the car, this sailboat was entering the river.

 I like the looks of sailboats under sail.

 And some shots of Big Red, the lighthouse in Holland.

 Sadly, I was starting to shoot into the sun for some of these shots.

Other Things on the River

Before I posted the other Borg ship, I wanted to post some of the other things that I see on the River.

 The wind patterns were right and the planes were flying right over Belle Isle.  I think this plane was a Boeing 717 which is one of the DC-9 variants.

 A catamaran.

 The Cape Dundas which is a Canadian Coast Guard boat.  I think this one is based on our 40' Motor Patrol Boats.  I think it looked pretty cool.

I think this is an Airbus A319.  It belongs to Delta Airlines.  It was in the landing pattern.

River Oddities

Just some things that I couldn't otherwise classify.

The next ship was the Algorail.  There is an old running joke in the boatnerd community that she feeds on sailboats.

So this seems like it was chumming the water for the Algorail.

Just outside of Holland, Michigan is Lake Macatawa.

 While I was there, I figured I would head out to the lighthouse.  As I was going out, there were some sailboats on the water.

 It looked liked they were part of a sailing school of some sort.

As I was taking pictures of the Arthur Anderson, I saw this sailboat

It seemed like she was having trouble getting out though.  But I do like the look of a sailboat under sail.

A Random Sailboat

This boat was following pretty closed to the Playfair.  In fact there were several on the water yesterday.

 While my tastes tend to lean towards the bigger ships, I will have to admit there is something pretty cool about a sailing vessel (whether boat or ship).  When you aren't using your engine, you have to be in tune with both the characteristics of your boat and the forces of nature.  When you get both of those qualities mastered, I think you can take a sailing vessel anywhere.

At any rate, it was pretty cool to see.

 I kind of liked the reflection of the bridge tender's building in the water.  I think they were trying to cool the span.
